Michael reacts to your Letterboxd Reviews for Sophie and the Serial Killers

What's up everyone. I hope everyone is having a good day where ever you are at in the world. Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment and thank anyone who has left a review for my film over at Letterboxd. I read every review and comment on the film, and I greatly appreciate these people who took the time to not only watch the film, but leave some thoughts on it. Now here is my chance to react to your reviews. Let’s a start.

Thanks geev for your lengthy review and saying this is a film that EVERYONE needs to see. I kinda wish you elaborated on what you meant by awful quality? Are we talking about bad camera angles, bad sound, or bad writing? I was kinda curious just so I know what didn’t work for ya. But I am pleased to hear that you were laughing SO HARD. That is one of my main goals as I want to provide some laughs.

I’m glad you also enjoyed jamming along to the first four songs and thought there were unironical bangers. (Does this mean the songs after the first four were not as enjoyable to you?). The guy who plays Princess of Calamity is indeed quite hot, and its quite amazing that Sophie (Mia) and Princess (Andrew) started to date in real life after the film. I can tell you during filming I did see the chemistry form so I wasn’t to surprised by the news.

I’m glad to hear your enjoyed the twist ending (trust me, writing those are not easy) and that the low budget helped to amplified your enjoyment of this film. I would love to cast Mia and Andrew in another project in the future, but they are defiantly pretty busy these days. But anything could happen. I might indeed need some mystery woman in a future project, so feel free to hit me up on my website, Instagram or Twitter (X). Thanks Geev for your epic review!

Thanks Lamb for your review. I was wondering when someone would comment about the Second Amendment Gun Beach. Fun fact, that was edited in to the film to help explain why Bridget would take her gun to the beach. xD I agree with you that the film is a bit long and maybe some of those running scenes could be trimmed down a tad. I just wanted to have epic chase scenes. I’m sorry, but not really, to hear that “The Greatest Serial Killer” song is stuck in your head. That was our master plan all along, to get the songs stuck in your head. Mwhahahaha.

Thanks Brian McDonald for your review and for checking out the film. (Is that your real name or a name you wish you had in real life?) I’m glad to hear the film was inexplicably charming and that it could have been “So bad its good”. What could we have done to improve the film for you?

I’m going to have to run this one through google translate since its in Portuguese. Give me one second.

“Oddly enough, better than I expected. The combination of a musical Battle Royale with serial killers in a low-budget production lasting more than 2 hours created a scenario so different and creative that it completely enchanted me.”

Thanks Alex for your cool review of the film. I’m glad to hear it was better then expected and that it’s creative approach was able to keep you engaged.

Thanks August for watching the film and leaving us a review. I’ll have to point out that I think only one of the actors in the film left a review on letterboxd at the time of this blog posting. (At least to my knowledge, as I don’t know who could be hiding underneath a secret user name).

That’s intersting you wished the film went even further left into politics, as I already felt I was already pushing the envelope a little bit already. So I don’t know how much more extreme we could have gone with it. In terms of ignoring the history of drag, there were a few lines cut from the film that mentioned drag. But they were cut out due to the long length of the film already. The point of Princes’s character was that he was to over come his misandry. Anyway, thanks for leaving your thoughts.

Thanks Magenta Majors! Indeed, it is crazy that we somehow made the film against all odds and no budget. It’s a thing of beauty, am I right?

Looks like we have a Spanish talker on our hands, let me read back to the google translate.

"I can't Martha, they're singing"

Well, it is a musical and I guess you can’t win them all over. Thanks Mitian Moon for your review and at least trying to watch the film.

Thanks Most Silliest Of All Time for your nice review and kind words. I’m thrilled to hear you loved everything about the movie. Sadly, there wasn’t really enough demand to produce a run of physical copies for the film. (You have to order them in batches of 50 to 100, so I would end up with a bunch of DVDs just sitting in my room) But I hope you can enjoy the film by streaming it online and rocking out to the songs. Also, you are the first person who has given me a five out of a five, a perfect score. For that, I may have to frame your review on my wall. (Plus you also have a Magica Madoka avatar which gives you bonus points)

Thanks Midnight Motorist for your intense review. I’m glad you got to feel some crazy emotions in your soul while you were watching the film. I also see you got some of our parody songs. We did indeed rift on How Bad Can I Be from the Lorax and Let It Go from Frozen. (Let it Go is sure a catchy banger isn’t it?). I’m glad you had fun during your journey through complete and utter nonsense and recommend to anyone in a group setting.

Here we are with our final review. Thanks Galop Inferno for your review. This is the only review that I know of that was a actor from the film. This guy played the anime serial killer in the final chase sequence with Sophie and he was great to work with. It is indeed a strange little film with a lot of heart. I don’t know how I feel about being compared to Birdemic, but I suppose it’s better then being compared to The Room. Thanks again for everything man.
